Bruce Fields

Creative Director

I first met Bruce Fields @bofields through mutual friends while we both attended VCU in Richmond, VA. We never really hung out, but whenever I’d run into him he always exuded such positive energy. He seemed to have a real connection with whomever he engaged with, regardless of whether he’d known them for 5 minutes/Years. Fast forward to a few years later, I found him on IG and I started to follow him on social media. I don’t remember when it was exactly, but I was still at my old Accounting job in VA, dreaming of moving to NY, and I saw a post on his IG regarding his move to the big city. A lot of times when we see someone being/doing what we wish to be, there’s a hint of envy lurking underneath the surface. But for me, his particular move motivated me to focus and align my intentions to make this dream of mine a reality. Of course he wasn’t the sole reason I mustered up the courage to move, but he was definitely one of many and I just remembered thinking that if he could, I could too!

Since then, I’ve followed his journey and I admire him for his “ever upward” mentality (which is the translation of New York’s official state motto, Excelsior). He manages to have a pulse on everything cool - whether it be the best restaurants in the city, the latest happenings in the art/fashion/entertainment scene, or having an access pass to the freakin Superbowl! Bruce is the quintessential Plug, for lack of a better word. He has impeccable taste and style, one that’s obviously innate and not dependent on “what’s hot now”.

What I respect most of all is his love and support of people. He founded Field Mobb, a creative collective based in Richmond, VA that holds seasonal events that brings people together to network and to simply have a good time. Although I’ve never attended #ABigAssCookout (as they're called), the recap always looks like fun times were had by everyone in attendance. Bruce is also one that has used his platform to highlight the people in his circle. That’s what I aim to achieve with this interVIEW segment; to genuinely honor and spotlight people that I think are doing cool things, clout or not. It’s important that we raise each other up, because sometimes you just need that positive reinforcement. It’s invaluable to know that someone out there sees you and is proud and supportive of what you’re doing.

Bruce Fields currently works as a Project Manager at Wieden+Kennedy - an advertising agency best known for its work with Nike. He is definitely someone to know and I look forward to the major contributions he has to offer.

I asked @bofields 10 questions, check out his answers below:

Define Marketing in your own words?

BF: The art of selling a product or service to consumers, from concept to completion.

What’s the best thing about growing up in Richmond, VA & what about the city do you carry with you, no matter where in the world you are?

BF: It's a mixing bowl of cultures. We're too south to be north and too north to be south (in the eyes of some southerners) but we are still the south. I experienced a lot growing up that taught me about how the world views people of color and the need to make opportunities for yourself. I'd say the thing that I carry with me is pride, pride in who I am, and pride in where I'm from.

What's your Zodiac sign and what do you love about being that sign?

BF: Capricorn, our sign begins and ends the year, wouldn't have it any other way.

Fav song/album out right now?

BF: "PROM/KING" by Saba from the album "Care For Me”

Describe your experience of NY in 3 words?

BF: "Make Shit Happen”

What's your Go-to self care practice?

BF: Listening to music to clear my mind.

Top 3 places to eat in both RVA & NY?

BF: RVA - Saison, Lemaire, and Chicken Fiesta (Fight me) .

NYC: The Edge, Miss Lily's, and Lido’s.

One song/movie that best describes your character?

BF: Jay-Z , "Can I Live?”

What’s your advice to the millennial generation?

BF: Stop looking for instant gratification, work hard and keep moving. And help others along the way.

Without giving away too much, What’s next for Bruce Fields?

BF: Not sure, but hopefully more working and more living. I'll take a few pictures along the way.
